Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how ArzuLingo (“we”, “us”, “the app”) handles your information. ArzuLingo is a language-learning app designed to work without requiring you to create an account or provide your name, email address, or phone number.

1. Information We Collect

• Anonymous identifier — a random ID tied to your device is used to save your learning progress and place you on the leaderboard. It is not linked to your real-world identity. It is stored in your device Keychain so your progress survives a reinstall.
• Display name & avatar — a friendly nickname (auto-generated, editable by you) and an emoji avatar, shown on the public leaderboard. You are not required to use your real name.
• Learning data — your progress, XP, streaks, chosen course, app language, certificates, and daily activity, so we can save where you left off and rank you.
• Device & technical data — device type/model, platform, app version, and your IP address, collected server-side for security, abuse prevention, and aggregate analytics (e.g. daily active users).
• Content you submit to AI features — the text of your written/exam answers and your messages to the AI Buddy, and, for voice features, your microphone audio (see §2 and §3).

We do not collect your email address, phone number, contacts, precise GPS location, or photo library.

2. Microphone & Speech Recognition

Some features use your microphone:

• Pronunciation & exam “speaking” exercises use your device’s speech-recognition service to turn your speech into text and score your pronunciation. On Apple devices this is provided by Apple’s speech-recognition service, and your speech data may be sent to Apple to process the request, as stated in the system permission dialog. We do not store this audio.
• Voice AI Buddy role-play & the live voice tutor stream your microphone audio in real time to our server, which relays it to Google’s Gemini Live AI so the AI can understand you and reply by voice. This audio is processed to run the conversation and is not stored by us.

You can decline the microphone permission and still use the app — these features are optional, and text alternatives are available.

3. AI Processing (Google)

To provide AI features — exam generation and grading, the AI Buddy chat, and the live/role-play voice conversations — we send the relevant text or audio to Google (Vertex AI / Gemini), which processes it on our behalf to generate the response. We send only what is needed for the feature and do not attach your real identity. We do not use this content to advertise to you.

4. Text-to-Speech (Audio Playback)

The app reads words and sentences aloud using either your device’s built-in text-to-speech engine or pre-generated audio from Google Cloud Text-to-Speech. This uses lesson text only — no personal data.

5. How We Use Your Information

• Save and sync your learning progress, streaks, and certificates.
• Rank users on the public leaderboard by XP.
• Run the AI, speech, and voice features you choose to use.
• Keep the service secure and understand aggregate usage to improve the app.

6. Leaderboard

Your display name, avatar, XP, and current journey city/flag are visible to other users on the public leaderboard. No other information about you is shared. You can change your display name and avatar in the app at any time.

7. How We Share Information

We do not sell your data, and we do not show third-party advertising or use third-party advertising or tracking SDKs. We rely on trusted infrastructure and AI providers (such as Google Cloud / Google Vertex AI, and Apple’s speech recognition) solely to operate the features described above, and we disclose information only where required by law.

8. Data Retention & Deletion

Your learning data is kept so your progress is available across sessions. You can erase it at any time, directly in the app: open Profile → Account → Delete my data. This permanently removes your server record and leaderboard entry, and wipes your local data and the identifier stored in the Keychain. See our Data Deletion page for details.

9. Children’s Privacy

ArzuLingo is suitable for general audiences and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because we do not collect names, emails, or contact details, the app does not gather personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal data, contact us and we will remove it.

10. Your Choices & Consent

Using the microphone, AI, and voice features is entirely your choice; each requests permission or is clearly initiated by you. You can withdraw microphone/speech permission in your device Settings at any time, and delete all your data from within the app.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date above.
